BTCC ace Jordan: “I expect to challenge for poles and wins”

Wednesday, April 17 2019

BMW Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan admits he expects to challenge right at the front of the BTCC field at Donington Park next weekend (27-28 April), after a victorious start to his season at the wheel of the new BMW 3 Series at Brands Hatch last time out.

Jordan enjoyed an extremely positive start with his new machine at the Kent circuit, with the highlight being a maiden win for the 3 Series in just its second race, after a spectacular charge through the field from 15th on the grid.

While some were stunned at the new car's almost immediate success, the Donington local was far from surprised, and actually expected to be a front runner right from the off.

"I wouldn't say it was better than we expected because I thought we could get a win at the first round, but I think it opened some people's eyes," he commented. "We were a little bit unlucky in races one and three, so championship position wise we're not where we should be, but in terms of absolute pace, that race two win was pretty dominant, so I think we're in a strong position moving forward."

The 2013 champion also believes that the car is already operating at near to maximum potential, with perhaps just a few areas of fine-tuning required.

"I think people expect because it's a new car, it will keep getting quicker and quicker, which I don't think really is the case. West Surrey Racing have done such a good job, it's rolled out so well, and there's actually not that many areas that we can improve it in.

"So I almost think the pace we've got is the pace we've got, we might make a few little improvements here and there but the car's good straight out the box."

Jordan noted his team's ability to produce three competitive cars in an incredibly short timeframe,

"The fact that they've managed to build three cars in the timescale they had is the thing I find most impressive. I kind of expected the car to be rolled out and be quick straight away, so the fact the cars were reliable and on the pace since day one, and we had three of them ready for the media day, which was never in the initial plan because of time constraints, shows they've done a very good job."

With immediate confidence behind the wheel, and a race win already to his name, Jordan is fully expecting to put his home advantage to full use next weekend.

"I'm going to Donington expecting to challenge for pole and get more wins and podiums. Equally we need to keep scoring points and I think we'll be very strong there.

"I always look forward to going to Donington because you can really feel the home support there and when you get on the podium you feel a louder cheer than the other guys as I'm pretty local, so I'm looking forward to it. It should suit our car pretty well I would think, so that bodes well and I'm going there with the mind-set of sticking it on pole."

Tickets for the Donington Park round of the Kwik Fit BTCC are available in advance from £28 while children aged under-13 go free of charge all weekend. For more information click here or call 0843 453 9000.
