MSV Mega Moments 2019!

Tuesday, December 10 2019

MSV's 2019 season has well and truly been one to remember with thrilling battles on the track all year long at Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park, Snetterton, and Cadwell Park.

There have been so very many incredible memories over the past year but we've selected some of our favourites to look back on as we head into the festive period.

Do you agree? What were your favourite moments?

CODE RED

It was a history-making year for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as MotoGP convert Scott Redding clinched the title in just his first season racing full-time on UK circuits. Redding sealed the crown on the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit after a thrilling season-long battle with his Be Wiser Ducati team mate Josh Brookes who narrowly missed out after winning all three races at the title deciding round. Redding will return to the world stage in 2020, but his single season in Bennetts BSB surely ranks as one of the most memorable.

#SUPERSUNDAY

Race fans were treated to an opera of speed and sound at Brands Hatch in August when the DTM returned to the Grand Prix circuit with two races. All eyes were on a stunning #SuperSunday line-up which featured not just the weekend's second DTM race, but also a pair of raucous demonstration runs from David Coulthard in an Aston Martin Red Bull Racing RB7 and the first ever W Series season finale. Britain's Jamie Chadwick won the inaugural all-female single-seater series whilst compatriot Alice Powell won her first race of the season.

LAST GASP BTCC DRAMA

Colin Turkington and the latest BMW 3 Series were a class act in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship this year but his title hopes appeared to be in tatters as he started from the back for the final race of the season. Dan Cammish was the title favourite by the time the decider got underway and was within just two laps of winning Britain's biggest motor racing series for Honda when his brakes failed. Heartbreak for Cammish was contrasted by ecstasy for Turkington who climbed just far enough up the order to secure a record-equalling fourth crown.

JP's MINI ADVENTURE

MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer took a trip back in time at Brands Hatch in the summer as he took to the circuit in an original Austin Mini Cooper S, raced by Jack Davies in period, and now owned by his sons John, Tony and Mike. Ex-F1 ace Palmer isn't seen often on track these days but has a long history with the Davies family, who were responsible for first drawing him into the world of motor racing in the 1970s, and jumped at the chance to get back behind the wheel in the classic tin top!

BRANDS HATCH F1 MASTERCLASS

This was one for the purists. The Masters Historic Festival's FIA Historic Formula One races are an annual highlight on the Grand Prix circuit for fans of the sport's past and this year's Saturday race was a real cracker. For lap after lap, the Tyrrell of Martin Stretton and Williams of Michael Lyons battled side by side for the lead into Paddock Hill Bend and at no time did it ever feel like you knew who would emerge as victor. The crucial moment came as Lyons ran into the gravel just a couple of laps from home, ending one of the season's truly epic on-track scraps.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, SPLASH

The FIA World Rally Championship and Wales Rally GB returned to Oulton Park in style in the autumn with Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke setting the fastest time in a thrilling night time dash. The Toyota ace flew around a bespoke rally route lined with pyrotechnics and which contained unique challenges such as a doughnut and water splash as the planets biggest rallying championship returned to the venue for the first time since 1993.

REA GUNS TO DONINGTON TREBLE

Jonathan Rea claimed his first treble victory of the new format FIM Superbike World Championship season at Donington Park as he began to turn the tide of his title battle against Alvaro Bautista in front of a home crowd. The Kawasaki rider was imperious all weekend long and he later translated that form into a fourth title. Local favourite Leon Haslam and frequent Donington front-runner Tom Sykes featured on the podium too in a brilliant weekend for the Brits in two-wheeled motorsport.

PARTY IN THE PARK

Let's face it, when isn't this a highlight? Cadwell Park's annual Bennetts British Superbike Championship bonanza was a huge success once more as enthusiastic and knowledgeable motorcycle fans flocked to the Lincolnshire Wolds from across the country. Danny Buchan and Josh Brookes shared the wins as some of the planets finest motorcycle racers jumped over the Mountain time and time again in a masterclass of both sportsmanship and showmanship.

LIGHT UP, LIGHT UP

Rockets ignited the sky up and down the country as four of MSV's venues in November, starting with Oulton Park which kicked things off with a season ending display following its annual Neil Howard Stage Rally. Brands Hatch and Snetterton followed the next day with Truck Racing and Time Attack respectively on in the day before the big bangs, whilst Cadwell Park brought things to a close with a Transformers and rally infused display a fortnight later.
