Bennetts BSB Big Brands Bash is back with a bang next weekend

Friday, June 07 2019

With a new name at the top of the leader board and a new contest offering a £75,000 bounty, the Bennetts British Superbike Championship arrives at Brands Hatch in Kent for the annual 'Big Brands Bash' (14-16 June) with the promise of an incredible weekend of entertainment and racing on the legendary Grand Prix circuit.

The event is a summer highlight for fans and riders alike, and the new cash incentive will add extra impetus for riders including MotoGP convert Scott Redding, who leads the championship by six points after an incredible triple win last time out at Donington Park, and 2015 champion Josh Brookes, who scored a double at Oulton Park in the second round.

2019 has already provided some gripping on-track battles, with new names on the podium for the first time while some established riders have struggled to make an impression. Kent rider Bradley Ray, who took two wins on the opening weekend of last season, is one of those who has endured a tough start to the season and will be hoping the home advantage will give him a boost.

But it's Redding who has been grabbing the headlines after moving from MotoGP to Bennetts BSB at the start of the season. Three wins from three in the East Midlands catapulted him to the top of the standings. He was buoyed after completing the triple and starting to make strides in a new series.

"I just showed to myself the confidence and belief that I've got, which is something that I've been working on over the past years. It just feels amazing to be back in a fighting position and winning races. It's not easy out there, those guys are so strong the first few laps and I just need a bit of time to find my way," he said.

Six-time Bennetts BSB winner Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, who took his last title at Brands Hatch in 2017, returns to the circuit next weekend in the commentary box for Eurosport as he continues his recovery from serious injury, and he believes fans will witness some great racing.

"For me Brands Hatch is the home of BSB. The GP circuit at Brands, it doesn't get any better than that. I don't care what anybody says, it is the spiritual home. I think the fans that come along to Brands are in for a real treat. The circuit lends itself to great racing and I'm smiling just talking about going there," he said.

The event kicks off on Friday with practice, followed by Saturday's qualifying and two headline Bennetts BSB races on Sunday, plus fantastic support from Dickies British Supersport and other championships, including ever-entertaining British Sidecars.

Fans can also enjoy a lively free music concert on Saturday night featuring top tribute acts Guns or Roses and Hot Red Chilli Peppers. Bars and food outlets will be open until late into the evening all weekend and a busy trade village will be selling clothing, official merchandise and bike gear. Fans can also meet their BSB heroes during a free pit walk and autograph session on the Sunday.

This year's event features the opening round of the new £75,000 Integro Summer Triple Crown - a cash prize on offer to any rider who can take six wins across three consecutive rounds. The competition gets underway at Brands Hatch on the full Grand Prix circuit next weekend and moves to Knockhill before concluding at Snetterton in mid-July.

Advance adult tickets start at just £28 with discounts for teens (13-15) and kids under 13 are free. Weekend camping is available at the circuit for £22 per adult in advance, with full facilities on our standard and quiet campsites. There's no charge for under 13s.
