BTCC Race 2: Shedden inherits win after Ingram penalty

Sunday, October 10 2021

Honda driver Gordon Shedden has been awarded his second BTCC win of the weekend in race two, after on the road winner Tom Ingram was penalised post-race.

Hyundai contender Ingram had stormed from 11th on the grid to victory in the race, but while battling Shedden for the lead was judged to have gained an unfair advantage and received a one second penalty, which dropped him second behind Shedden in the amended classification.

Ingram, running without success ballast, made rapid progress in the opening laps, including five places on the first tour, and was in a position to challenge leader Shedden for the lead on lap 10. The Ginsters-backed driver drew alongside the Scotsman on the run to Roberts, and made the move stick in the braking zone.

He then saw out the final six laps to win by three quarters of a second ahead of the race one winner, before receiving his penalty.

Toyota driver Rory Butcher claimed the final spot on the podium for Toyota, after leading the opening couple of laps.

Ash Sutton was fourth as he strengthened his title bid, finishing clear of Power Maxed Vauxhall's Dan Lloyd and Hyundai's Senna Proctor. Sutton had been edged down to 10th early on, but fought back superbly to pick his rivals off one by one.

Josh Cook, another championship contender, was seventh ahead of Aiden Moffat, while Jake Hill was ninth to breathe more life into his title charge after a difficult opening race.

Dan Rowbottom completed the top-10 for Halfords Racing.

Colin Turkington meanwhile had climbed as high as fourth, and was poised to make another dent into Sutton's championship lead, but dropped down the order after a spin at the Old Hairpin on lap 13, and ultimately lost ground in the fight at the front by finishing only 11th.
