Convoy in the Park is almost here!

Saturday, July 14 2018

The UK's largest celebration of truck racing and all things HGV, Convoy in the Park, is fast approaching (21-22 July) for one of Donington Park's biggest family events of the year.

Recent announcements have further added to the anticipation ahead of the festival, the centrepiece being the incredibly exciting British Truck Racing Association Championship, for which it has been confirmed that 10 races are scheduled across the weekend.

The largest vehicles to take to the track all season will put on quite a show: the reverse grid format for most of the races mean that the quickest drivers start at the back. Be sure to look out for colossal fightbacks through the field during the course of the weekend, as drivers battle not only their rivals, but also their machines, which produce over 1,000 horsepower and weigh five tonnes each!

Two events in two consecutive weekends for the championship has seen reigning champion Ryan Smith establish a small gap at the top of the standings, and he won all four races at Thruxton last weekend, despite starting the final three from the back of the grid - proving that these monster machines can be just as racey as more standard racing machinery.

The truck racing will be backed up by more action thanks to the NASCAR-style Pickup Truck Racing Championship, sleek sports cars in the Dunlop Endurance Championship, the Classic 2CV Series and the comparatively diminutive Legends series, which are some of the smallest machines to visit the circuit all year, but produce some of the best racing!

If racing isn't your thing, then there's plenty to keep all members of the family occupied throughout the weekend.

There will be hours of live music on both days courtesy of top tribute bands. The Rolling Clones, one of the UK's biggest tributes to the Rolling Stones, headline Saturday's line-up while Sunday's bill toppers are the Counterfeit Beatles, one of the UK's most sought after acts and a previous headline act at the Fuji Rock Festival alongside Coldplay, Elvis Costello and Primal Scream, in front of a crowd of 80,000.

The Live Action Arena will be bustling with activity throughout the event with stunt shows, caravan destruction and more, while the large circus tent will host three comedians on Saturday night and circus shows on Sunday.

Huge display areas with around 1,000 trucks expected and major manufacturer displays will provide a sight to behold for truck aficionados, and fans will also be able to drive a truck for the first time during the event. There'll be competition away from the track too, with the UK qualifying rounds for the HIAB World Crane Championship!

With additional activities for children including entertainers, a large funfair, Scalextric challenge and much more there's something for the whole family throughout the weekend.

Adult tickets for Convoy in the Park are available in advance until midday on Thursday 19 July, priced from just £20 per day or £30 for the full two-day weekend. Discounted rates are also available for children aged 13-15. For more information or to book, click here
