Redding racks up another win but Bridewell is blue

Sunday, September 08 2019

Scott Redding picked up his seventh win of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship season this afternoon at Oulton Park after a gripping battle with his Be Wiser Ducati teammate Josh Brookes and Ducati privateer Tommy Bridewell.

Redding was euphoric, describing the race as "mega, lots of fun", and said overnight changes meant he got a great start: "I had a banging start out there, put me in a much better position for the race, I was comfortable. Felt good, the bike had similar grip to the other guys on some changes that we made last night. When the guys give me a bike that can win and I feel good, I can win."

But for Bridewell, who led for part of the race and hoped to bring home a first win for the Oxford Racing Ducati team, third place just wasn't good enough.

"The team gave me a race-winning bike and yet again I didn't deliver so I don't know what to say. My race craft isn't right, I'm not good enough, something isn't working. I feel sorry for the team, they are not disheartened but for myself it's just not good enough," he said afterwards.

Others, including Brookes, were quick to challenge him for being too hard on himself. Brookes said the race pace had been fast and all the front riders had been pushing hard, so in another race he'd have taken the win.

All three Ducati riders have already confirmed their places in the final Showdown six, alongside FS-3 Racing Kawasaki's Danny Buchan who claimed the fourth spot yesterday. Andrew Irwin had to sit out today's race two due to a penalty awarded for breaching Championship rules yesterday and the missed race meant he lost sixth spot in the standings to Peter Hickman, who finished eighth, with Tarran Mackenzie's ninth-place finish boosting his points total in fifth.

There's one more race to go before the final six names of the riders who'll battle for the 2019 title are confirmed. Race three of the weekend is at 4.30pm.
