BRITISH GT QUALIFYING: RAM Racing Mercedes barges to pole

Saturday, July 10 2021

RAM Racing and Newbridge Motorsport will start Sunday's Intelligent Money British GT Championship round at Donington from pole position after topping the combined GT3 and GT4 times in this afternoon's qualifying session.

Ian Loggie and Yelmer Buurman claimed GT3 top spot from WPI Motorsport despite the latter's two fastest laps being scrubbed for track limits infringements. Michael Igoe and Phil Keen join them on the front row after falling 0.051s shy of the Mercedes-AMG's combined time, while another Lamborghini - Barwell's #1 Huracan shared by Adam Balon and Sandy Mitchell - starts third.

Scott Malvern moved Team Parker's Porsche up to fourth in the final classification after claiming the two fastest times overall.

Further back, Matt Topham picked up where he left off at Silverstone by scoring his and Newbridge Motorsport's first GT4 pole position alongside supersub co-driver Darren Burke. With namesake Turner on Festival of Speed duty, the new look Pro-Am crew beat Team Rocket RJN's Katie Milner and Harry Hayek by just 0.055s.

McLaren's DDP crew took Silver Cup spoils ahead of Toyota Gazoo Racing UK's John Ferguson and Scott McKenna who set GT4's fastest individual qualifying time for the second round running.

The British GT contest tomorrow will start at 12.45, and will be a two hour mini-endurance epic.

In addition to the British GT race, there will be further action including two 20 minute races for the BRDC British F3 Championship, Ginetta sports cars, and the City Car Cup.
