Rea racks up 100th Kawasaki WorldSBK win

Monday, April 25 2022

Kawasaki ace Jonathan Rea claimed his 100th WorldSBK race win for the Japanese manufacturer in the Superpole Race at Assen last weekend (23-23 April), though it was a weekend of two halves after a dramatic collision with reigning champion Toprak Razgatlıoğlu in the final race.

Following on from his 99th Kawasaki win on Saturday, Rea made it two from two in the Sunday morning contest to reach the milestone figure, becoming the first rider to secure a century of wins for any manufacturer in the series.

His victory came with a last lap pass on Alvaro Bautista, and earned him his third victory from six races so far in 2022.

Bautista's win in the third race of the event means the Spaniard also has three wins to his name, but the Ducati man leads the championship, owing to Rea's dramatic final race collision with reigning champion Toprak Razgatlıoğlu. The pair made contact on the exit of turn one on the sixth lap, with both dropping out of the race, handing the initiative to Bautista.

Bautista's lead stands at 18 points over Rea, with Razgatlıoğlu third overall having taken five consecutive podiums before the race three drama.

WorldSBK heads to Portugal and Italy for two more rounds before the only UK event takes place at Donington Park on 16-17 July. Tickets are available by clicking here.
