10 days to go! 10 things to look forward to at Donington WorldSBK

01 July 2022

The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship's #GBRWorldSBK round is just ten days away from hitting Donington Park on 15-17 July! The Worlds top superbike aces heading to the UK, and here's 10 things we can't wait to see during the weekend.

Bautista vs Rea vs Razgatlioglu
If you've seen any of this year's World Superbike action, you'll know just how amazing this year's racing has been. Ducati's championship leader Alvaro Bautista has stolen a march on his rivals, but Kawasaki's six-time champion Jonathan Rea and Yamaha's current champion Toprak Razgatlioglu have been right in the thick of it! You name it, they've done it; last ditch overtakes, lead changes on every other lap, collisions and last lap deciders. And now they're braced and ready for Donington.

Home heroes to cheer on
In addition to record-breaker Rea, Alex Lowes and Scott Redding will also be hoping to make big impressions at their home round. Both are Bennetts British Superbike champions, and could well figure at the sharp end at Donington Park. Kawasaki ace Lowes counts Donington as his local round, while Redding famously won at the circuit in 2008 in the 125cc World Championship class, and was unbeaten in five BSB races at the venue in 2019!

The wildcard Brits aiming to make big impressions
The UK round always sees a number of wildcard riders, and several leading Bennetts BSB contenders are throwing themselves into the mix at the event. Reigning BSB champion Tarran Mackenzie will make his WorldSBK debut at the event, while series veteran and 2018 BSB winner Leon Haslam will be onboard a Pedercini Kawaskai at his home round. With more wildcards expected, there'll be plenty of Brits for the home fans to cheer on.

The big crowds are backand grandstand seats still available!
WorldSBK may have returned to the circuit last year after an enforced absence in 2020, but it was in front of a capped crowd owing to government restrictions at the time. But, for the first time since 2019, there'll be a big crowd at Donington Park's major international event, and believe us, there's going to be A LOT of you here. The atmosphere is going to be insane, but of course there's plenty of room for more, and you can still take advantage of our best prices by booking before 4pm on Wednesday 13 July. Want to get the best views? There's still limited availability in the Hollywood Grandstand on all three days. Click here for full information.

There's going to be one heck of a party in the paddock!
With so many fans coming back to Donington, you can be sure that the hugely popular Paddock Show will be even better than ever, and there's free access to the big stage all weekend! Host Michael Hill will be joined by all the big names in WorldSBK, and there'll be interviews, quiz shows, giveaways, concerts and a stunt show. The Paddock Show bursts into life on Friday, and keeps going all weekend. Click here to vew the current Paddock Show schedule.

The best of three wheels in action
The World Sidecar Championship will also be in action at Donington Park, with the best sidecar pilots and passengers set to put on a stunning show with two races across the event. There's plenty for the home crowd to cheer on too, with the standings currently led by British rider Todd Ellis and his passenger Emmanuelle Clement. Four other British crews are in the top-10 at present, so chances of more home success are high.

Top-notch support package
In addition to World Sidecars, there's more brilliant action from the World Supersport Championship and the Yamaha R3 Cup, plus leading national categories including the Ducati V2 Cup and British Junior Supersport, with 12 races in total across the event. Click here to view the event schedule.

Fans meeting the stars
The open paddock policy means that all visitors will be able to rub shoulders with the stars of the World Superbike championship and their teams all weekend - get the autograph pens and selfie sticks ready! Fans on the sold out pit walks will also get an exclusive look at the pit lane and the bikes, while the riders will make regular appearances at the Paddock Show.

Loads of fun for all the family
As well as the awesome racing across the weekend, there's plenty to see and do around the venue on all three days. In addition to the Paddock Show, there's a Fan Zone with display areas and access to the podium ceremonies. Axe throwing and archery will allow spectators to test their accuracy skills, while an extreme wheelie bike will allow fans to practice their wheelies with the help of expert instructors. Younger fans can get their face painted and there's a fairground in operation on the Saturday and Sunday. The latest merchandise can also be snapped up in the trade areas.

Packed out campsites to create festival atmosphere
The sold out vibrant infield campsite will generate a real buzz all weekend, and there'll be live music here for all camping ticket holders on Friday and Saturday evening. Missed out on the infield site? No despair, there's still space on our outfield campsite near Redgate corner and you can still join in the fun during the weekend. Click here for more details.
