Haslam hunts down early win at Easter BSB opener

Thursday, March 29 2018

Donington Park local Leon Haslam is fired up for this weekend's opening round of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship (March 31 - April 2) after his crushing defeat in the final race last year.

The 'Pocket Rocket' emerges from a strong winter testing programme and topped the timings at last week's official test, but current champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is determined as ever. The Ducati rider is gunning for an incredible seventh crown and third title defence after beating Haslam at the last gasp in 2017.

Haslam said: "I am always excited for Donington Park, especially as we go into it with the same team for the second consecutive season and off the back of a really good winter test programme. I am feeling good too and if anything the end of last season has just fired me up more to come out fighting harder this year.

"Last year we did the double, but before that Donington had always been a tough track for me and hadn't been that kind with results. We know the Ducati goes well there though and I am looking forward to getting stuck in this weekend and where better to kick things off than at my home round."

The weekend features a packed weekend of racing including two headline BSB races on Monday plus support from Dickies British Supersport, Pirelli National Superstock 600 and 1000 and lots more.

The opening round of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship kicks off at Donington Park this Easter weekend (March 31 - April 2). Tickets on the gate are £10 on Saturday, £16 on Sunday and £34 on Monday with discounts for teens and senior citizens - kids under 13 go free! More info here
