Truck heavyweights thrill at Convoy in the Park

Sunday, August 11 2019

A total of five races from the British Truck Racing Association were the on track highlight as Convoy in the Park thrilled thousands of race fans and families today (Sunday).

The Truck racers saved the best until last, as Division One pair Jamie Anderson and Shane Brereton went wheel to wheel in their MAN TGX machines and were only separated by half a second at the chequered flag.

The Iveco Stralis of Simon Reid was the first winner of the day for the Division One machines, taking a 1.3 second triumph over series legend Stuart Oliver, with reigning champion Ryan Smith third. Smith claimed the second race of the day, with a 1.6 second victory from David Jenkins, while Brereton completed the podium.

In Division Two, former Renault Clio racer Paul Rivett took victory by over nine seconds in the category's opening contest of the day with Steven Powell second, while Luke Garrett took the spoils in the second contest, just over three seconds ahead of Powell who was second once more.

Elsewhere, there was dramatic action from Legends and Pickup Trucks, as well as from the Super Silhouette category.

Off track, families and youngsters again enjoyed a huge package of entertainment and activities around the venue, including the exciting Live Action Arena which featured Drift Trucks, stunt shows and rallycross demos, while caravans were turned to dust thanks to the popular Caravan Smashes!

Live music kept guests in Garage 39 entertained all day, while the thousands of display trucks around the venue ensured there was plenty to look around for all visitors.

The next major event at Donington Park is the British GT and BRDC British F3 #DoningtonDecider on 14-15 September, with tickets available in advance priced from £20 for adults, with free entry for children aged under-13. For more information or to book, click here.
