O’Halloran return tops flurry of Bennetts BSB rider announcements

Monday, December 13 2021

Jason O'Halloran's return to McAMS Yamaha was the headline rider announcement made during Bennetts BSB Day at Motorcycle Live last weekend, while Ryan Vickers and Bjorn Estment also confirmed their spots on the 2022 grid.

The Australian, who finished third overall in this year's Bennetts British Superbike Championship, will return to the team for a fourth consecutive year. He enjoyed his best-ever season in the championship in 2021, winning 11 races and finishing on the podium 22 times.

O'Halloran had led the 2021 championship chase until the crucial Showdown phase, amassing more race wins than any of his rivals across the season. His efforts played a significant role in McAMS Yamaha winning the 2021 Teams' Trophy by a phenomenal 200 points, as well as Yamaha winning the manufacturers' crown by over 100 points.

The news means McAMS Yamaha's line-up remains unchanged with O'Halloran and champion Tarran Mackenzie fronting the squad once again.

O'Halloran said: "2021 was my best-ever season in BSB. I came into the season with four BSB wins to my name and ended the year on 15 having been on the podium in 22 out of the 33 races. There's no hiding from the fact the end of the year didn't go to plan, but, considering '21 was a career best season for me, that is just added motivation for 2022."

FHO Racing BMW meanwhile announced the signing of Ryan Vickers, who completes the team's line-up alongside 2021 title fighter Peter Hickman.

Vickers joins Faye Ho's Louth-based team for their second season in the Championship as they prepare to build on their successful debut campaign, which featured five podiums, including two victories for Hickman and a final championship finishing position of fifth.

The former National Superstock 600 champion joins the team following some strong performances in 2021, with the Thetford-based contender narrowly missing out on a debut podium finish with a pair of fourth place results at Thruxton. He also recorded the fastest-ever lap of Cadwell Park in August.

Vickers said: "I'm extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to ride with FHO Racing BMW. During the 2021 championship, it was clear to see Faye's dedication and commitment to the team and I am really looking forward to joining them for next season."

South African Bjorn Estment will also be back on the grid next year, sticking with the Powerslide Catfoss Racing Suzuki squad for a second full season together.

Estment said: "I'm really so excited to continue with the Powerslide Catfoss Racing Suzuki team. In all honesty, we had a much more successful year one that we had hoped for, and through a lot of hard work and key partnerships, we made our debut season a real success."
