Sons of F1 legends rush to Donington Park this weekend

Thursday, October 21 2021

Freddie Hunt and Mathias Lauda will revive the spirit of Rush this weekend, as the sons of F1 legends James Hunt and Niki Lauda go wheel-to-wheel at Donington Park.

The pair will be racing in the Sports Prototype Cup on Saturday (23 October) during this weekend's BARC event, at the wheel of 510hp per-tonne Revolution A-One cars, and will look to re-enact the legendary battles their fathers enjoyed in the late-1970s. Their cars will be liveried in the McLaren and Ferrari colours James and Niki raced with.

The pair have locked horns before in categories such as the MRF Challenge in India and the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, and their exploits at Donington Park are being filmed for an upcoming documentary.

Hunt and Lauda will race twice on Saturday, with the first contest due to start at 12.50 and the second to follow at 16.15. Both races are scheduled to last for 30 minutes.

The Sports Prototype Cup has enjoyed high profile action in the last 12 months, having supported numerous Formula One events across Europe including at the Algarve circuit and at Monza last month.

The BARC weekend at Donington also features action from Britcar, Superkarts, Mini Miglia, the Junior Saloon Car Championship and the 2CV Parts.com Classic Racing Championship.

How we continue to keep you safe: COVID-19

Whilst our motor racing circuits are outdoor venues, with spectators dispersed over a very wide area, we recognise the importance of maintaining sensible precautions to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. We have therefore retained many of the protocols that have been in place since we welcomed spectators back again in May.  Click here  for details.

Adult tickets are £14 in advance with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
