Sykes doubles up in close WorldSBK FP2 at Donington

Tom Sykes was fastest again in the second Motul FIM Superbike World Championship free practice session of the day this afternoon (Friday).

The BMW rider shaved less than six hundredths of a second off his best time from this morning, and was just 0.018s quicker than Pata Yamaha's local man Alex Lowes. Less than a tenth of a second covered the top four riders, with Puccetti Kawasaki's Toprak Razgatlioglu just 0.024s off Lowes and 0.037s ahead of Kawasaki's reigning four time champion Jonathan Rea, with the quartet separated by just 0.079s.

Leon Haslam was fifth fastest while Alvaro Bautista climbed to sixth fastest after slicing his best time from session one down by eight tenths of a second, and only 0.272s off the overall best.

Sandro Cortese posted the seventh fastest time for GRT Yamaha, 0.022s ahead of Ten Kate Yamaha's Loris Baz, with Chaz Davies and Jordi Torres completing a top-10 that all improved on their morning times.

Michael van der Mark in 11th was the only rider in the session not to improve on his morning times. The WorldSBK field are back in action again tomorrow with free practice three at 9am.
